Giving Up The Ghost

by LITTLE SUSPICIONS

/

about

“Bar to bar, drink to drink, bleary eyed little suspicions drift along in search for their lover. The song takes you on a star crossed lovers pub crawl from The Nags Head to The Crown, only for hopes to be dashed at empty bar stools, leaving only questions for how their partner feels and a sore head. The single’s artwork is a visual representation of this feeling. Giving up the Ghost isn’t our story, though. We found it easier to write this song as a confession from the perspective of the antagonist.”

Giving up the Ghost was made for those late nights and early morning confessions. Its opening hammering piano, hit with such force, it could be falling down a flight of stairs as it bounces around an Abba melody. The catchy chorus with shimmering disco strings, culminates into the dramatic final balcony scene sung entirely in Italian - à la Dean Martin - except it’s more fitting for a drunken sing song outside a two up two down at 2 o’clock in the morning.

The dreamy outro, sees the return of twangy baritone guitars, with Dick Dale surfing through Sergio Leone ending credits. With backing vocals reminiscent of doo woop, it’s the final ingredient of Little Suspicions’ time traveling musical tour encapsulated in the quartet's already familiar sound which takes a dip in 70’s nostalgia.

lyrics

Got in late last night
Drunk alone again
I woke up alone
And wondered where you've been

I just hoped to catch a glimpse
Of you about the town
I've been to the usual places
Still you ain't be found

If you want me to
I will leave you to it
And if you say we're through
Don't be cruel with it

So tell me how you feel
Do you find it hard to say
That I can't have you?
If you told me that's the deal
I'll be giving up the ghost
Though it's hard to do

You weren't at our favorite bar
Each Friday was eight o'clock sharp

If you want me to
I will leave you to it
Finding someplace new
Is there some truth to it?

So tell me how you feel
Do you find it hard to say
That I can't have you?
If you told me that's the deal
I'll be giving up the ghost
Though it's hard to do

Bella io sento
(Tell me how you feel)
Che non ti interessa più di me
(Find it hard to say)
Quindi dimmi se è vero
(Tell me that's the deal)
Ho l'anima in pace
Se non ti manco

LITTLE SUSPICIONS Rochester, UK

Self-described ‘moody romantics’, Little Suspicions formed in early 2020 following a chance meeting between friends Joey & Conor and singer Moritz in a London pub. Sharing a mutual love for Scott Walker & 60’s theme tunes, the trio began writing and recording songs in their Kent home analogue studio - with the later addition of bassist Craig adding the final piece to the LS puzzle. ... more
